May 28, 2026, New York — China foreign minister met with Uruguay foreign minister
minister Lubetkin. China described Uruguay as a stabilizing force in Latin
America, noted the collective rise of the Global South, and highlighted
Uruguay’s role as chair rotating of the Group of 77 and China. Beijing said it
will deepen multilateral cooperation to promote an orderly multipolar world and
inclusive economic globalization, and urged Uruguay, as rotating chair of CELAC,
to coordinate efforts to strengthen the China‑Latin America Forum and push
implementation of five major projects under the China‑Latin America community of
shared destiny initiative.
