China is the world’s largest copper producer and consumer, accounting for more
than half of global copper use. A global copper processor said orders for
high-voltage electromagnetic flat wire used in new energy vehicles are booked
through H2 2027, creating heavy raw-copper demand; the firm buys about 1.9 mln
tons of primary and recycled copper annually. Industry forecasts put China’s
NEV copper demand at 1.84 mln tonnes in 2026 and above 2.0 mln tonnes in 2027.
Global data-center copper consumption is projected at 0.74 mln tons in 2026
and 1.3 mln tons in 2028.
