Toyota has paused development of the next-generation Lexus electric vehicle amid
weak demand and the removal of US subsidies and is conducting a wider review of
new projects. The LF‑ZC, originally targeted for a mid-2027 launch, was to
include integrated die-casting and a lower-cost, faster-charging battery; Toyota
said those technologies will be applied to other models. The move highlights
automakers recalibrating electrification plans as EV demand growth slows and
policy incentives become less certain. Toyota initially aimed for a 2026
production model; a spokesperson declined to comment on revised timing, though
Earlier reports said the schedule has been pushed to next year.
