Ecuador President Daniel Noboa said on May 29 the government will cancel the 'security tax' on Colombian products effective June 1. The levy was imposed Jan. 21 at 30% and was later raised to 100%, prompting Colombia to raise duties on Ecuadorian imports to 100% in retaliation. Quito had announced on May 4 it would cut the tax from 100% to 75% from June 1; the May 29 statement cancels the charge instead.
