Météo‑France said on May 29 that during the recent heatwave more than half of
French departments recorded at least one monthly temperature record, an event it
described as unprecedented in meteorological history. The agency has issued
orange heat warnings for many areas. Since May 23 Paris has repeatedly recorded
daily highs above 32°C. May 26 was the warmest May day on record for France,
with a national average temperature of 24.9°C.
