On the evening of June 1 local time, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu held a
phone call with U.S. President Trump to discuss developments in Iran and
Lebanon. The call followed Israeli forces crossing the Litani River to launch an
offensive, effectively collapsing a temporary ceasefire that began April 17. On
May 31 Netanyahu ordered an expansion of military operations in Lebanon and has
sought U.S. support for strikes on Beirut and other targets, a request he has
communicated to Washington.
