Beijing, Jun 2 (Beijing time early hours) — At a UN Security Council emergency
meeting on the Lebanon-Israel situation, China’s UN ambassador Fu Cong said the
situation has sharply escalated: Israel has expanded military operations in
Lebanon, widened a so‑called “security zone,” crossed the Litani River and
occupied Beaufort Castle — its deepest incursion into Lebanon in more than 20
years. Fu said Israel has announced intentions to further expand ground
operations and that the ceasefire is effectively dead, prompting serious
international concern. China called for an immediate ceasefire and full Israeli
withdrawal, increased support to Lebanon, and for UNIFIL to be enabled to carry
out its mandate to preserve regional stability.
