The SFC issued a circular urging licensed firms to strengthen cybersecurity to
counter emerging threats driven by frontier AI models. It warned that, as AI
models evolve rapidly, attacks could become more frequent, more targeted and
more sophisticated, potentially causing major operational disruption and
material risk to firms, staff and clients. The circular noted Hong Kong recorded
a double-digit rise in cyber incidents last year and said firms should enhance
controls accordingly.
