Hungary’s Prime Minister Peter Magyar said he expects to reach a technical-level agreement with Kyiv this week on a minority-rights issue that has blocked formal EU accession talks. The dispute traces to a 2024 11-point demand from Hungary’s previous government on rights of the Hungarian minority in western Ukraine and Hungarian-language education; Magyar, who took office after April’s election, has set similar conditions. He said Budapest’s core demand is explicit clarification of the Hungarian minority’s cultural and language rights, called that a necessary precondition, and said an agreement would allow accession negotiations to begin; he may meet President Zelenskiy next week.
