China's foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said the US is the instigator of
the China-US media dispute. Mao said China has implemented the three consensus
points and provided visas and other facilitation for US journalists, while
Chinese reporters in the US face severe restrictions: almost no in-person White
House access, frequent delays to visas and residence permits, several
Journalists forced to return and few approvals for short-term reporting trips.
She said US claims to defend free speech are undercut by labeling Chinese media
as foreign agents or foreign missions and urged Washington to implement the
bilateral consensus and guarantee Chinese journalists' legal rights to work and
live in the US.
