The US State Department said on June 3 that Israel and Lebanon have accepted US guidance to rapidly establish pilot zones in which the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) will exercise exclusive control and all non-state actors will be excluded. A ceasefire is conditional on two preconditions: Hezbollah must fully stop firing and all Hezbollah personnel must withdraw from south of the Litani River. Delegations, building on May 29 defense talks, discussed a security framework and agreed to restart the political and security track in the week of June 22 aiming for a comprehensive agreement.
