IAEA said on June 5 it brokered a temporary local ceasefire between Ukraine and
Russia — the sixth since late last year — to permit repairs to transmission
lines supplying the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant. The truce took effect today near
the plant; after large-scale demining in the coming days technicians will begin
restoring the war-damaged Dnieperovskaya 750 kV high-voltage transmission line,
the agency said. The operation aims to secure critical power supply and prevent
the threat of a nuclear accident.
