May nonfarm payrolls rose 172,000 and the unemployment rate held steady, the
Bureau of Labor Statistics said Friday. Prior two months were revised up by a
combined 93,000, leaving three-month job gains at their strongest pace in more
than two years and suggesting the labor market may be emerging from a prolonged
weak hiring cycle.
