June 6 — A roll-on/roll-off vessel built in China for transporting aircraft components was launched today at CSSC’s Wuchang Shipyard. The 169m by 23.32m ship is fitted with six cylindrical rotor sails made from aerospace-grade lightweight materials and an aerodynamically optimized design intended to significantly improve fuel efficiency. It uses dual-fuel methanol/diesel propulsion, enables zero-sulfur emissions and cuts NOx by more than 80% versus conventional fuel, meeting the latest IMO emission standards. Launched via an inclined slipway, the vessel will complete engine, propeller and electrical system trials at berth and is scheduled for delivery in November for deployment on transatlantic aircraft-parts routes.
