Wholesale egg prices at Beijing’s Xinfadi hit 5.5 yuan per jin in early June,
about 26% higher than early May and nearly 80% year‑on‑year — the strongest
same‑period rise in roughly five years. Market officials attributed the jump to
Dragon Boat Festival seasonal demand and a temporary tightening of supply. The
Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs said higher prices restored
profitability for layer farms: most were profitable in May, earning about
0.5–1.2 yuan per jin.
