Financial Times reports that two years ago Trump’s family firm promoted a $500m
resort project in Oman; last week Trump threatened to bomb Oman. The State
Department released a video of Trump warning Oman to "act like other countries
or we'll have to bomb them" after he accused Oman of helping Iran levy passage
fees on ships through the Strait of Hormuz. Analysts, including Emile Hokayem of
the International Institute for Strategic Studies, say the threat reflects
Trump’s frustration at failing to compel Iran to reopen the waterway and a
redirection of pressure onto Gulf allies — pressing countries he regards as
owing him favors (eg, Saudi Arabia) or those he sees as obstructing his aims
(eg, Oman).
