Local time on the 7th, a private jet reportedly exploded during an emergency
landing at La Romana International Airport in the Dominican Republic, killing 2
people. The aircraft had been destined for Austin, Texas, when it developed
mechanical trouble shortly after takeoff and attempted an emergency return; it
exploded and caught fire after touchdown. The Dominican civil aviation authority
said the plane was US-registered and listed to a business aviation company. The
2 on board have been identified as US citizens. Cause under investigation.
