Iran's foreign minister Araghchi reiterated Tehran's position that the Strait of
Hormuz is not international waters but falls within the joint territorial seas
of Iran and Oman. He said the strait's narrowest point is 21 nautical miles
(about 39 km) and that, from a legal standpoint, Iran and Oman therefore have
the right to regulate passage through the strait.
