US equities swung sharply today: markets opened higher, sold off mid-session and
recovered some late losses. Most major indexes closed lower — Nasdaq down about
1%, S&P 500 down 0.26%. Chip stocks led declines; the Philadelphia Semiconductor
Index fell 1.9%. Many investors may be rotating out of this year’s top
performers to free cash for this week’s heavily anticipated SpaceX IPO.
