CENTCOM said U.S. forces completed defensive strikes on Iran on June 9 in
response to the previous day’s downing of a U.S. Army Apache helicopter. Using
precision munitions from U.S. Air Force and Navy aircraft, forces struck Iranian
air-defense systems, ground-control nodes and surveillance radar sites near the
Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM said the action was a proportionate response to recent
attacks on U.S. forces and international merchant shipping transiting the area
and that U.S. forces remain vigilant and prepared to defend against further
Iranian aggression.
