The National Bureau of Statistics said food, tobacco & alcohol and catering
prices fell 0.9% YoY in May, reducing CPI by about 0.26 percentage points. Meat
prices were down 7.4% YoY, trimming CPI by roughly 0.31ppt; pork plunged 16.1%
YoY and accounted for most of that reduction (~0.31ppt). Fresh fruit -2.2% YoY
(-0.04ppt); eggs +6.6% (+0.03ppt); fresh vegetables +1.6% (+0.02ppt); aquatic
products +0.6% (+0.01ppt). Of the seven other major CPI categories, six rose YoY
and one fell: other goods and services +9.9%, transport & communications +5.4%,
healthcare +2.1%, household goods & services +1.8%, clothing +1.4%,
education/culture/recreation +1.3%; housing -0.2%.
