Retired U.S. general Mark Kimmitt said reciprocal strikes and tough rhetoric between Washington and Tehran may not have derailed negotiations. "I don't think rhetoric has much to do with whether diplomacy succeeds," he said, adding Iran has sought to delay reaching an agreement. "That said, I believe what President Trump said — things are getting closer," Kimmitt added, noting Iran's pattern of delaying, rearguing and requesting more time. He said an agreement is unlikely in the next few days and that it will take time, urging patience from both governments.
