The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said a
5.5-magnitude earthquake struck southern Philippine waters at about 15:33 on
June 11, with a focal depth of 10 km; the tremor was felt in nearby areas. The
same region experienced a magnitude-7.8 quake on June 8 that killed at least 47
people and affected more than 340,000.
