The Wall Street Journal reports Trump and allies have discussed pushing
lawmakers to pass a resolution declaring the two impeachments from his first
term void. Experts say the measure would be largely symbolic because the
Constitution offers no procedure to rescind impeachments. Trump told reporters
in a phone interview, "It should be done because I did nothing wrong." Any
effort to erase the 2019 and 2021 impeachments would reopen disputes over
allegations including abuse of power, obstruction of Congress and incitement of
insurrection, forcing House Republicans to reargue those charges. Insiders say
the proposal is likely to be considered only after November’s midterm elections,
and several House Republicans say it would still struggle to secure the votes
required.
