Argentina observations show the Antarctic Peninsula reached 15.4°C on June 6 at
the Esperanza research station, surpassing the previous June single-day record
of 13.3°C set in 1998 and triggering abnormal ice melt. An expert at Argentina’s
National Meteorological Service said early-June temperatures were broadly high
in regions near the peninsula, but the peninsula itself was over 20°C above
normal — an unusual event.
