The U.S. State Department said Secretary of State Rubio told Indian foreign
minister S. Jaishankar in a call that all commercial vessels in the Strait of
Hormuz must immediately obey U.S. military orders. Rubio warned of violations of
the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports and illegal transport of Iranian oil will not
be tolerated. The call, earlier this week, followed a U.S. strike on a tanker in
the waterway that killed three Indian seafarers; Jaishankar told Rubio he
reiterated India’s strong protest and called lethal attacks on commercial
shipping unreasonable.
