At 12:25 today Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory issued a red rainstorm
warning. Over the past 3 hours cumulative rainfall in Luohu, Futian, Yantian,
Longgang, Pingshan, Dapeng Bay, Longhua (Guanhu, Minzhi, Longhua, Guanlan
subdistricts) and Dapeng New District (Kuichong subdistrict) reached
extreme-heavy-rain levels. Another 40–70 mm of rain is expected in the next 1–2
hours. Shenzhen has entered an emergency rainstorm-defense state; authorities
urge people to avoid low-lying and flood-prone areas. The named areas face high
risk of urban flooding, flash floods, landslides, debris flows and ground
collapse.
