At a June 18 briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said Lai Ching-te’s
pro-independence remarks and actions by the DPP do not change that the Taiwan
issue is an internal Chinese matter, cannot alter the international community’s
adherence to one-China, and will not prevent China’s eventual reunification. He
said China’s opposition to U.S. arms sales to Taiwan is consistent and clear.
