EU high representative for foreign affairs and security policy Kallas said the
EU remains "committed to constructive relations" with Israel after Israeli
foreign minister Gideon Sa'ar said he would cut all contact until Kallas
retracts or clarifies comments comparing Israel's treatment of Palestinians to
apartheid South Africa. Kallas said there are many ties between the EU and
Israel and she values constructive, respect-based engagement, but stressed the
"two-state solution" is the only viable path to Middle East peace and reiterated
the EU's condemnation of Israeli settlement construction in the occupied West
Bank.
