South Korea's foreign ministry director-general for Northeast Asia and Central Asia, Nam Jin, told reporters on the 18th that the China–South Korea joint communique states “The Government of the Republic of Korea recognizes the Government of the People’s Republic of China as the sole legal government of China and respects China’s position that there is only one China and that Taiwan is part of China,” and that Seoul’s position has not changed. China’s foreign ministry said it positively evaluated the full, public restatement and said it hopes and beliefs Seoul will adhere to the original intent of establishing diplomatic relations, honor political commitments, implement the One-China principle in practice and safeguard the political basis of China–South Korea relations.
