On June 19 an IDF spokesman said frontline forces deployed in Lebanon “have
operational freedom” but that operations face certain limits and will be carried
out strictly under political leadership instructions. He said the IDF retains
the right to act in any area to eliminate threats. Matters related to agreements
are for the government to decide; absent other orders, forces will act on the
chief of staff’s directives.
