Following a June 18 memorandum of understanding, technical-level U.S.-Iran talks
are scheduled in Switzerland on June 21, Pakistan said on June 20. Iran’s
negotiating team has arrived in Switzerland and the U.S. vice president has
departed to attend. On June 20 Iran’s military announced it was closing the
Strait of Hormuz, citing U.S. failure to restrain Israel and alleged breaches of
the MoU; the U.S. military said it had not detected any Iranian actions to close
the waterway. President Trump on June 20 issued guidance on charging transit
fees for passage through the strait.
