Guinea President Mamady Doumbouya has banned exports of unprocessed gold ore and ordered all gold to be refined domestically before shipment. Under the new policy, gold must be processed at a newly built facility in the capital Conakry and may be exported only as refined ingots. Operators who continue to export raw ore face license suspension and termination of mining agreements. Officials say the measure is intended to boost local gold-processing capacity and support the domestic economy.
