China's deputy UN ambassador Sun Lei told the Security Council on the 22nd that
China urged parties to remain calm and exercise restraint, strictly observe
international humanitarian law, avoid attacks on civilians, civilians
infrastructure and humanitarian workers, and push for de-escalation and an early
ceasefire. He said the conflict has grown protracted, battlefield intensity is
escalating and civilian suffering is increasing, a dangerous trend that must be
reversed.
