Shanghai party secretary Chen Jining met Sanofi global CEO Ge Lihe and HSBC chair Nie Zhiheng. He urged Sanofi to leverage Shanghai’s strengths in basic research, talent, market scale and policy support to increase local innovative R&D, place more innovative and global-simultaneous development projects in Shanghai, and deepen cooperation with domestic biotech firms to strengthen the city’s pharmaceutical ecosystem. He asked HSBC to use its global network and expertise to deepen cooperation on tech finance, green finance, urban renewal, cross-border and offshore finance, and support firms’ outbound activity, and to provide input as Shanghai refines a regulatory framework suited to an international financial centre.

South Korea’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said some Korean vessels trapped in the Strait of Hormuz have begun departing but declined to disclose details, citing crew safety, shipowners’ requests and the high-risk nature of the waters. The strait has been blocked since late February after the outbreak of the Middle East war; 26 Korean ships were trapped. Following a US-Iran peace agreement earlier this month two Korean vessels have already left; the ministry did not say how many are leaving now, so the number still in the strait is unknown.
