South Korea presidential office policy chief Kim Yong-beom said on June 24 that Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix’s plan to build a new semiconductor cluster has entered final discussions and will be publicly announced once finalized. He said AI-driven chip demand has led to a substantial acceleration of construction at the existing Yongin cluster. SK Hynix plans four fabs in Yongin and is discussing moving completion of the fourth fab forward from 2044 to 2034.
