U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in prepared remarks to the Economic Club of New York on Tuesday that U.S. economic national-security policy will be guided in part by the need to reduce vulnerability to potential adversaries cutting off critical supplies. "We will build resilience before crises occur," he said, urging supply-chain reviews to assess vulnerabilities in the military, hospitals, energy systems and the financial system. Bessent said the U.S. should develop sufficient domestic production capacity to ensure Americans are not subject to critical overseas bottlenecks.
