On June 25, 2026 China foreign minister Wang Yi held talks in Beijing with
Austria’s foreign minister. China congratulated Austria on its election as a
non‑permanent UN Security Council member and offered closer communication and
cooperation, backing multilateralism, free trade and reform of global
governance. Wang described China‑EU ties as partnership rather than rivalry and
said China’s development is an opportunity for Europe; he welcomed Austria’s
pragmatic China policy and urged continued constructive support for China‑EU
relations. Austria said it prioritizes ties with China, seeks expanded strategic
dialogue and greater trade, investment and green development cooperation, and
Austrian firms intend to deepen their presence and participate in China’s
modernization. The two also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis and Middle
East tensions.
