AP: Pakistani security forces on Sunday carried out an intelligence-led ground
operation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, striking militant hideouts and
killing 29 fighters, officials said. Authorities said the action responded to a
series of militant attacks nationwide. A day earlier, gunmen with explosives
attacked the Pakistan Rangers' regional headquarters in Karachi, killing three
soldiers; security forces killed three attackers and detained another, whom the
military said was an injured Afghan national. A splinter faction of the Pakistan
Taliban calling itself the Free Men Party claimed responsibility for the Karachi
attack.
