China's Central Propaganda Department, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of
Agriculture and Rural Affairs recently jointly issued an action plan to reform
and upgrade rural family bookhouses and promote village reading. The plan
prioritize tailoring layouts and formats to local conditions, optimizing
content supply to meet local demand, innovating delivery models to cultivate a
reading culture, and strengthening institutional support; it calls for
"bookhouse+" empowering and flexible "+bookhouse" integration, expanded digital
services, development of distinctive brands, encouragement of social-sector
participation and publicity to improve bookhouse functions and rural reading
service efficiency.
