Mississippi's five‑day grace period. The justices reversed a lower court ruling
in a 5‑4 decision; the lower court had found Mississippi's law inconsistent with
federal timing rules for presidential, Senate and House elections. The decision
was described as a judicial setback for President Trump, who last year said he
would try to stop nationwide use of mail‑in ballots ahead of November's
congressional elections.
