Following a US-mediated Lebanon-Israel framework agreement to end the war,
President Aoun met with the army commander to discuss the military's forthcoming
duties and reviewed the security situation in light of recent Lebanon–US–Israel
talks. The commander reported on recent Turkey and UK visits focused on military
cooperation. The framework ties a phased Israeli withdrawal from all occupied
Lebanese territory—starting with two undisclosed pilot areas and with no set
timetable—to the Lebanese army assuming full security responsibility in vacated
areas and to the disarmament of armed groups.
