On June 30, Iran’s parliament speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher
Ghalibaf said Tehran will uphold the memorandum of understanding but is prepared
for war if the US does not implement agreed terms. Ghalibaf described
negotiating with the US as dealing with an untrustworthy adversary and said only
by being ready for war can Iran negotiate effectively. He also rejected claims
that unfrozen Iranian funds would be limited to purchases of US agricultural
goods, saying that is inaccurate and that under the memorandum Iran has the
right to freely allocate thawed funds.
