Germany is urging the U.S. to allow more American weapons to be produced on German soil to plug European military shortfalls and give President Trump a reason to sustain U.S. defense engagement, sources said. German officials are in talks with U.S. counterparts and hope to seal a joint-production agreement ahead of next week’s NATO summit in Ankara. Negotiations between German and U.S. defense firms cover joint manufacture of systems including Tomahawk cruise missiles and PAC-3 interceptors for the Patriot air-defence system, and broader cooperation on measures to boost mutual defense capacity. U.S. government and industry reactions have been more positive than expected, sources added. The move is part of a wider European effort to deploy domestic defense industrial capacity to stabilize strained ties with Washington.
