South Korean equities tumbled after Meta’s plan to sell computing capacity raised concerns of AI compute oversupply. The KOSPI fell more than 6%, sliding as much as nearly 7% in early trade on Thursday and briefly triggering a trading halt. SK hynix dropped about 9% and Samsung Electronics fell over 7%. Overnight U.S. peers Micron (MU.O) and SanDisk (SNDK.O) each fell more than 10%. The moves may intensify investor doubts about the sustainability of the chip rally driven by booming AI infrastructure demand; Korea’s major suppliers occupy a central position in that supply chain.
