At a July 2 press briefing the Taiwan Affairs Office said the DPP had been rejected
scouting-trip applications from Shanghai and Fujian tour operators, prompting
island tour groups to protest and call for depoliticizing tourism. Spokesperson
Zhu Fenglian said resuming travel by Shanghai and Fujian residents reflects
mainstream opinion and would support peaceful cross‑strait relations, accused
the DPP of politicizing cross‑strait tourism and ignoring industry livelihood
pressures, and said the office remains committed to the “cross‑strait family”
concept and has signaled goodwill. She urged the DPP to lift restrictions on
mainland residents' travel to Taiwan promptly if it truly cares about the
industry's livelihoods.
