The National Radio and Television Administration said recent short-form dramas display richer themes, heightened intent, more mature storytelling and stronger distinctiveness, and that 'boutique' production is becoming an industry consensus and self-driven practice. At a 2026 summer review of boutique short-form dramas in Beijing, Network Department director Wang Xiaoliang said future short-form drama creation must adhere to the correct direction, uphold content bottom lines, set benchmarks and deliver high-quality titles.
