Under the latest US-EU trade agreement, the EU pledged to purchase $750 billion worth of US energy products over the next three years, with liquefied natural gas (LNG) accounting for the majority. However, due to higher natural gas prices in Asia, US exporters are more willing to sell LNG to Asia, leading to a two-year low in European purchases of US LNG in June. Furthermore, affected by last winter's inventory depletion, the Middle East situation, and supply disruptions, EU natural gas inventories are at their lowest level in nearly 15 years, indicating continued pressure on energy supply this winter. With the Russian LNG import ban taking effect in 2027, the US may account for 80% of the EU's LNG imports in the future. At the same time, the EU is restricting the development of oil and gas resources in the North Sea and Arctic, limiting domestic production growth and making energy supply even more reliant on imports. While the EU is attempting to reduce its energy dependence on Russia through sanctions, it may gradually shift towards dependence on the US.
