Tim Stockdale of the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts told AFP
on the 7th the current El Nifio is likely to reach record overall strength,
raising global risks of droughts, floods and other extreme weather. He said this
El Nifio is 'extreme' compared with more than 30 years of observations and that
'he had never seen forecast models predict an El Nifio so strongly and
consistently'; barring surprises it will break the record.
