Sina Azodi, director of the Middle East Studies Program at George Washington University, stated that the US-Iran memorandum of understanding is more of a ceasefire agreement than a peace agreement; small-scale clashes are likely to continue between the US and Iran until a final solution is reached. Azodi said, "In reality, it's more like an arrangement for Iran and the US to cease hostilities on all fronts." "Therefore, as long as a peace agreement is not reached, such small-scale clashes, miscalculations, or even accidental exchanges could reignite the conflict between Iran and the US, and even throughout the region." Azodi pointed out that the memorandum of understanding faces real obstacles, including opposition from within Tehran, and at the same time, some Republicans in Washington, D.C., have criticized President Trump because of it.
Azodi added, "While I have criticized President Trump for many reasons, I believe this memorandum of understanding is the right decision. It's a wise move that can end the war, stop the killing, and bring stability to the oil market."
